The Monk and Hound Barber Shop

SERVICES: BRAND DEVELOPMENT, SIGNAGE, BUSINESS STATIONERY, WEBSITE DESIGN + DEVELOPMENT

The Monk and Hound is an old-style barber shop located in a 150 year old heritage-listed building that originally housed one of the earliest barber shops in Western Australia.

The branding brief was for a traditional barber shop aesthetic, with a minimal monotone palette to compliment the bespoke timber shop fittings that are used to display an eclectic mix of vintage objects (shop fitout designed by Sam Leslie and Hamish Cameron of Smash Creation and custom built by Bryan Thompson of Woodstylist Fine Furniture). Large-scale metallic silver signage on the windows echos the glint of the tools of the trade, whilst business cards and gift vouchers have been printed in black on rough buffalo board card to carry through the raw aesthetic of the shop fitout. dcdesign is currently building a website for the shop, designed to imitate the modular form and warm timber tones of the plywood shelving.
